How To Wear Hair Nets Correctly

Posted by Thursday 19 April 2018

A hair net that fits and is effective at containing hair is the key to reducing contamination. Check out our simple tips in this article.

The headache of hair contamination can be resolved if staff wear effective hair nets correctly. A correctly fitting product can significantly reduce the issue. Currently hair and plastics are the two biggest contaminates of food.

Using an effective product such as the HACCP International Certified HairTite range, complaints can be reduced by up to 80%. To wear a restraint correctly long hair should be tied up at the nape of the neck and the net should then be placed on from the front encasing all the hair and the ponytail or bun at the nape. Our products have been independently tested to contain at least:

  • 2X more hair containment of a diamond mesh hair net of the same cost

  • 70% more than a Honeycomb net

  • 82% more than a Mob capMob Cap

Industry needs a product that is one size fits all, but with each individual having different head size, hair styles and thickness it is difficult to achieve. Aburnet's products feature university developed, patented technology which lightly recoils depending on the user. Importantly it creates contact points with the hair, key to containing it.

The products elastication is critical; too loose or too tight prompts the user to fidget and abrasion on the head increases the contamination risk. Remember, effective products worn effectively reduce contamination and protects you and your business. If your current product balloons away from the head it is ineffective at holding hair.

Engage and train staff by using posters and videos to demonstrate how to wear the product effectively. A great way to ensure staff are wearing their net correctly with the bun at the nape and all hair enclosed is to use the buddy up system. This involves pairing up staff and getting them to check the back of each others net.
